I think we can all agree that COVID-19 has upended life as we knew it. For the majority of Americans, the most important things we can do are frequently wash our hands and practice “social distancing” by staying at home and only visiting essential stores when absolutely necessary. If your family is already going a little stir-crazy, check out our tips below to make the most of this quality time at home.
Rest assured that at PrimeLending of Denver, things are still business as usual. As PrimeLending is in the banking and finance industry, we are considered an essential business and our team members will be helping customers throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. We are still helping borrowers purchase and refinance properties. To promote social distancing, we offer e-signing of closing documents, which means you can electronically sign important paperwork instead of coming in to the office.
We are all still adjusting to this new reality, but our dedicated team members are here to help you. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at 303-658-9004.
Let’s make the most of this time cooped up indoors. Use the tips below to stay productive and positive while you’re homebound.
Tips for the Homebound During COVID-19
Create a daily schedule.
First, if you feel as though the days are all running together, create a daily schedule for your family to follow. Include daily expectations for each family member – and perhaps even for your pets! You can include work, school, chores, and more. If your children don’t already help with daily chores, this is a great time to include them in the running of the household. Even very young children can help with tasks like folding laundry, setting the table, and emptying utensils from the dishwasher. Be sure that you include time for fun and relaxation as well!
Tackle that to-do list.
If you’re like most homeowners, you have a running to-do list of projects you want to accomplish when you have the time. And, well, now you have the time! You can finally clean out your junk drawer, organize your closet, dust your ceiling fan, and hang those picture frames. For those of you who don’t have a list, make one! Crossing something off your to-do list each day will give you a sense of accomplishment and may help this time in quarantine feel more like a blessing than a curse.
And remember, your to-do list doesn’t have to be filled with serious projects and tedious chores. Have you been meaning to watch The Godfather for years? Add it to the list! Have you always wanted to try watercolor painting or baking your own bread? Now is the perfect time! Anything goes.
Call and video chat with loved ones.
Especially if some of your loved ones live alone, try to schedule times to call and video chat with them. There are numerous technologies available that make it easy to video chat: Google Hangout, Skype, FaceTime, Facebook Messenger, Zoom, etc. Choose whichever option works best for you. You could even host a virtual happy hour, a game night, or a movie party (using Netflix Party).
Explore the world (virtually).
One amazing thing about this pandemic is that because we’re all in the same boat, many organizations are offering special features to help entertain housebound families (especially those with young children). Museums, national parks, zoos, and a variety of other cultural institutions are offering virtual tours and other online content that is both fun and educational. Check out these options if you’re itching to explore the outside world:
- View live streams of animals posted by zoos and aquariums.
- Take virtual tours of some of the world’s greatest museums.
- Experience some of America’s best national parks using virtual tours.
- Watch the nightly live opera stream hosted by The Metropolitan Opera.
- Stream classic Broadway shows.
- Tour Disneyland and Disney World using Google Street View.
- Virtually step into mission control using NASA’s free Space Center Houston app.
- Explore the Taj Mahal, Eiffel Tower, and Sydney Opera House using Google’s Arts & Culture tool.
Do some spring cleaning.
As you spend more time at home, you might notice that your house is a little dirtier or more cluttered than you had realized. Since we’re more than a week into spring, now is the perfect time for some spring cleaning. If the quarantine has left you feeling bored and unaccomplished, take some time to deep-clean your home. Not only will it make your “staycation” a little more pleasant, but also you’ll get some exercise.
Finally, try to stay positive. Think about the things you’re grateful for each day, whether that’s your health, your family, your home, your pet, or the delicious food on your table. This may be a strange and unsettling time, but it will end eventually.
